An Immersive Educational Experience


Looking for an opportunity for your students to learn more about the history of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes?

Want to explore the cultural significance of the bison? Interested in science and cultural activities? The Bison Range offers a

wide range of activities for educational groups ranging from kindergarten to graduate students!


Due to budget and staff changes, the CSKT Bison Range will be

limiting groups to two staff-led activities per day, as of January 2026.

Self-led activity totes will be available for additional stations, if needed.


Museum Tour – 1 Hour

Group Activity

The Bison Range provides a guided tour of the Museum that includes historical, cultural, and scientific information approved by the CSKT Culture Committees and the CSKT Natural Resource Department. The tour can be adjusted for age, grade level, or interest if needed. Tours must be requested at least one day in advance. Please use our contact form or email BISONRANGE@CSKT.ORG.

Field Trips

Our Information & Education staff are happy to accommodate educational group looking to take a field trip to the Bison Range.

Monday-Thursday (Fridays must be requested in advance and are dependent on staff availability)

We are available for field trips:

9am- 4pm

Recommended Group Size

Due to staff changes, we now limit groups to no more than 50 people per day to ensure that all group members are able to participate in activities. For groups over 50, we suggest splitting groups into multiple days or speak with staff for alternative activity planning.

Reservations

If you are interested in setting up a field trip for your students, please contact us no earlier than 3 months before your target date.

Additional Activities

Other stations can be added depending on interest.

Pond Walk – staff led & tote

Enjoy learning about our native pond ecosystem and the animals that live there. Includes a short presentation, walk, and activity sheet.

Insect Activity – staff led

Learn more about pond life through a hands-on insect identification of live aquatic insects. This activity is for Grades 4+ only.

PRAIRIE WALK – staff led & tote

Walk along our information trail by the Visitor Center and learn about the interesting geological features of the Bison Range. Includes a presentation about traditional ecological knowledge, fire management, and wildlife conservation.

ANIMAL ACTIVITY – staff led

Students can learn about our native species by looking at bones and pelts. Includes a presentation and activity sheet.

NATIVE GAMES – Staff led

Kids can work out their energy by playing traditional native games. This activity is dependent on weather and availability.

MAKER Truck – Staff Led

The Kwul ‘I’tkin Maker Truck is a mobile, cultural makerspace co-created by spectrUM, CSKT Tribal Education, SciNation, and tribal elders on the Flathead Reservation. Equipped with both high- and low-tech tools and supplies, the maker truck travels to schools and community events across the reservation to engage K-12 students with hands-on STEM activities that weave together cultural and conventional forms of making.
