Photography Permit

If you are a small time photographer who only sells a few photos a year, you do not need a photography permit. Photography permits are only needed for photography tours, commercial photography, filming, or special access.

The Bison Range is not liable for any injuries due to reasonable hazards. All photography permit holders are required to have liability insurance as part of their application.

Photography that will be used for advertisement, promotional material, or business use.

A tour is defined as established photographers bringing groups of people to the Bison Range for photography or filming excursions, which clients pay to attend.

Anyone bringing a photography tour must purchase a Group Photography Permit as well as a commercial day pass.

Visual recording for a market audience, such as for a documentary, television or feature film, advertisement, or similar project. Commercial advertisements, feature films, entertainment broadcasts, documentaries, promotional or educational films (including non-profit and student projects). Filming for stock footage (regardless of equipment or crew size). Time-lapse photography if the final sequence will be used in a motion picture format for commercial purposes.

As of 2022, the Bison Range prohibited the use of tripods off designated walking trails or parking areas for safety concerns. However, photography permits do allow tripods to be set up as long as they are not blocking traffic and are not more than 10ft from their vehicle.

The Fishing Access Trail is closed to photographers. All visitors on the trail must having fishing gear and any photography equipment larger than a phone is prohibited.

All photography permit holders are still required to follow Bison Range regulations and stay 25 yards from large animals and 100 yards from predators.

We do not allow any drones on the Bison Range at any point during the year, even with a photography permit.

Educational (K-12) …………………………………… No Fee
