The Gathering
The Gathering (formerly called the Roundup under U.S. Fish & Wildlife) is a massive gathering of the bison herd held every two years in October. During this time, bison are brought into the corrals for vet checks and genetic testing. As part of the bison herd management plan originally implemented under USFW, individuals deemed surplus are auctioned off to other conservation herds or to private owners. Though the Gathering has been open to the public in the past, there is some concern that large crowds can cause additional stress to the bison. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for announcements about whether the Gathering will be open to public viewing.
Auction
During a Gathering, the Bison Range opens bidding to the public. If you are looking to bid, please download this form and send a hard copy to Shannon Clairmont or Dan McClure at the Bison Range Visitor Center.
We will announce the bid submission deadline one month prior to a Gathering. Please do not submit an auction form until the deadline has been announced.
